DID SOMEONE SAY “BE MINDFUL”

Writer: Marcy DiehlMarcy Diehl

When it comes to weight loss, it’s not just about what you eat – it’s about how you eat…. Is it time to slow down and be more “MINDFUL” of our choices?

Life has gotten so chaotic in the world today!!! So many people eat on the run or gobble down their food while scrolling social media or watching TV.

There is a wee bit of a problem with this way of eating, you see it can take up to 20 minutes for your brain to tell you’re full. (One can polish off a lot of extras in that timeframe)

Which means if you gobble gobble and gulp down your food in 5 minutes, you’ll be less likely to pick up on those cues telling your body that you are actually full.

This can definitely lead to overeating and show back up in ways you don’t want it to and that will be adding extra pounds onto your body and the scale and onto your waistline !!!!

So how can we fix this you ask??? Well you know there is ALWAYS a solution. (We may not always like the solution although there is always one)

MINDFUL EATING

Mindful eating is your answer for this which means eating intentionally and giving all of your focus to your food.

It helps you tune into your body’s signals to break the cycle of mindless eating.

Taking your time and paying attention to what you are eating has been proven to promote weight loss, and also to help reduce binging and emotional eating.

This is a no brainer and is very easy to do as well.

 HOW ABOUT WE TRY IT…

So at first let’s just try these tactics just for one meal a day to get comfortable with the change!!! We DO NOT want to overload ourselves.

SIT DOWN AND SLOW DOWN

Stop for a minute and relax yourself before your meal. Take 3 deep breaths before you eat to tune into your body.

USE YOUR SENSES Notice the colors, flavors, smells, and textures of your food.

EAT WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS Take a break from ALL of your screens and try to give all of your attention to your food.

CHEW ALL OF YOUR FOOD.

And if you’re having a smoothie, sip slowly. This will help you digest your food better and notice all of the different flavors you have going on.

STOP WHEN YOU ARE FULL

Listen to your body’s cues and let go of the urge to clean your plate.

MEASURE YOUR PORTIONS

This takes a whopping 5 extra seconds and REALLY helps to keep you accountable to your needs.

We have all been guilty of the last one at one time or another . It tasted so good and we just keep on munching or we go back for seconds.

I am in Hopes that some of the above are good reminders to bring each of you back to center and be reminded of some of the things that get lost living a busy busy lifestyle.
